Thanks for the Annihilation Conquest Omnibus & looking forward to it when it comes in next week! I've only read the stories that were Nova vol.4, so I'm curious about how it all ties in together! The question I have is just with all of the other Nova's out there now, why was the decision made to leave Rich dead instead of using SW2K15 as an op to re-tool his origin and have him serve as a mentor? It's the question on a lot of Nova fans minds. No hate for any other Novas, just don't understand.

We’re not using SECRET WARS to retool anybody’s origin or backstory particularly–and even if we were, we’ve been using Sam Alexander now for three years, that’s a awfully long time to wait and do nothing–especially when, in the interim, the character has been all over television, had toys made, etc.

Well I thought “everything dies”?

Like him or not, Sam does not really deserve another book after going 30 issues with the promo he got, and like you said the toys, cartoons and corporate backing…if anything its a firm reason why the character has not worked..not some reason to keep him.

It is pretty clear, there is a problem here that needs to be fixed..and its not damn Rider’s origin. Flat out, Sam doesn’t deserve an Avengers book with mark Waid writing. Sorry guys, he just doesn’t.

TB says Sam had 3 years as a reason he is galvanized as Nova? His sales were dismal and the fan rejection was pretty well documented. Rider had 36 years to galvanize, and he has plenty of fans who miss him. Its been five years since he’s been gone.

All of this has more to do with the fact Marvel is fundamentally clueless and dislikes core fans.  But that is pretty obvious by this new “all new all different” leaked books. From what i see, its painfully clear, marvel has deep core issues effecting the whole line and the Rider problem is just the tip of the iceberg. (But actually a very nice microcosm of the whole deal all at once)

With this leaked creative team, Sam is now on to very marginal creative staff zone. Folks are bemoaning this guys Sucide Squad (even CBR). His Nova mini series was horrid and dissed DnA material. Rider had fun as an afterthought for years, as did the New Warriors. As such, this new book will not last 12 issues, and trying trick folks that generic “mentor characters” who are styled after a slightly older but basically Rich Rider in Name only (RRINO?) are what we wanted is fool hardy. Jesse Alexander has already shown to be a very poor character.

Not sure what fight you were in Lio, but nobody was screaming the big problem-o was a lack of a mentor…nope ..we wanted Richard Rider back.

Brevoort is clueless here. He ignores the petitions, loyal fan sites, the folks on Marvel heroes video games who campaigned for Rider, The Legends toys sales, the articles by fan sites and fan opinion, the fans who say they want Rider back, and even the poor sales on replacement versions. Truly, marvel is not the company they once were.

I have no problem with Sam but think of all the amazing stories there could be with Rich and Sam co-starring like Hawkeye had both Clint and Kate which was so fun! It’s a wasted opportunity imo.
